‘They will be there’: Liverpool really want to sign ‘important’ player soon but so does Pep Guardiola – Romano

Liverpool will have to see off strong competition from Manchester City for England midfielder Jude Bellingham.

That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Speaking on YouTube channel Que Golazo, Romano claimed that Liverpool and City both want Bellingham at some point after the World Cup.

“Now with Bellingham we have English clubs absolutely with the intention to sign him,” said the transfer expert. “Liverpool is one of them, as they want to sign an important midfielder in the summer and Bellingham is on the list, but Manchester City are always keeping an eye on his situation. They will be there.”

Romano also added a third name to the list to rival Liverpool and City.

“But also Spanish clubs with Real Madrid, Bellingham is a player who they have on the list,” he said. “Nothing will be decided now, as Borussia Dortmund want to wait until the World Cup. It will be a crazy, crazy race so get ready for many months of rumours!”

Liverpool bracing themselves for mega transfer race

Many months of rumours is not something that Liverpool fans should be pleased with in this case.

Going up against two clubs with resources like City and Madrid, Liverpool are relative paupers. This means that the longer the ‘race’ goes on, the less likely it is that Bellingham ends up at Anfield.

Alternatively, Liverpool should be trying absolutely everything they can to try to swing the player’s decision early on.

Sending in ‘agents’ like Jordan Henderson is one way to do it. But when the competition is so fierce, you’re going to need a little more than that.

With some of the figures involved being astronomical, you have to ask whether it’s really all worth it. There are other midfielders out there who could also improve Liverpool at less cost, one being Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde.

As Bellingham proved for England last night though, he’s a special talent. Signing him up would be a major coup for Liverpool and a sign that, despite early season struggles, they’re still one of the biggest draws around.

On the other hand, if he ends up at City, it’s another blow for the rest of the Premier League. After signing Bellingham’s old Borussia Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland, Pep Guardiola’s team look pretty unstoppable.

Add the 19-year-old to that mix and it may be game over for everyone else.
