What senior sources at Anfield are now saying about Liverpool’s move to sign Khephren Thuram

Liverpool have not agreed personal terms with OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram, despite reports claiming otherwise.

There was a flurry of excitement amongst supporters last week, after news emerged that the Reds had struck a deal with Thuram. However, according to The Athletic, this is not the case.

Citing ‘senior sources’ at Anfield, The Athletic claim that the notion of terms being agreed with Thuram has been ‘dismissed.’

The 22-year-old is said to be ‘under consideration,’ but that’s as far as things appear to have gone so far.

In the meantime, rumoured moves for James Ward-Prowse, Federico Chiesa and Benjamin Pavard are all near-enough ruled out. So too is any move at all for a forward player. Is it just us, or are things are starting to look ever so slightly worrisome.

No progress for Liverpool… yet

Let’s get one thing absolutely clear; Liverpool have had an excellent start to the summer transfer window. In brining in Alexis Mac Allister for a reported £35m, they’ve done the best business of any Premier League side so far, no doubt.

But, this isn’t all that uncommon for the Reds. They also started last year’s window very well, brining in Darwin Nunez one year ago today.

From that point onwards, there was still plenty of time to do business. But Liverpool barely did any. One year on, and last summer’s transfer window has aged incredibly poorly.

Nunez has done fairly well and remains a work in-progress. More was expected from the Uruguayan, though. Meanwhile. Calvin Ramsay has already been sent out on-loan for next season and Fabio Carvalho looks set to join him in doing so. Then there was Arthur Melo, who featured in just a single game all season long.

Clearly, the expectation is that Liverpool will do more this off-season. If they do, it does still feel as though Thuram will feature in that somewhere.

At the same time though, these are the kinds of reports we don’t want too be seeing to much of. It doesn’t feel like a huge jump from here to ‘Liverpool’s summer business is concluded.’

Of course, things will continue to tick along in the background and plenty of work is surely being done. But at some point, you feel Liverpool are going to have to bite the bullet even if they’re not totally convinced. We await further news with baited breath!
