Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin has claimed that reported Liverpool target Elye Wahi is in talks with several ‘big’ clubs over a move.
Wahi has reportedly been scouted by Liverpool recently. Reds talent-spotters were supposedly in the stands to see him score four goals in a Ligue 1 game against Lyon last month.
The 20-year-old ended the season with an impressive 19 goals in the French top division. And now, as relayed by journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter this evening, Nicollin has suggested that he could leave.

“His agent is in discussion with four or five big clubs,” the president told French-speaking podcast 100% Paillade.
Ominously, he then let slip the club Wahi perhaps wants to join, and it isn’t Liverpool. “We know that he likes Arsenal a lot,” added Nicollin.
Wahi makes a name for himself
Wahi perhaps isn’t a household name in England just yet, but it looks like the young forward soon will be. Considering that he only turned 20 in January, his numbers this season – and last season – are really impressive.
His 19 league goals were complemented by five assists. In terms of goal contributions, that put him joint-seventh in Ligue 1, level with a certain Neymar Jnr.
The signs were there during 2021/22, where Wahi hit 10 goals and two assists in 33 games.

Seen through that lens, it’s understandable that big sides are now beginning to talk to Wahi and his entourage.
We don’t yet know whether Liverpool are one of these teams. But with the Reds perhaps in need of a squad addition in the forward areas, maybe they are.
Clearly, the attacking line isn’t Jurgen Klopp’s main priority this summer. If the right forward becomes available though, it wouldn’t hurt to bring one in.
Fans may prefer others such as Federico Chiesa, who is seemingly available. Wahi looks more like the kind of profile Liverpool usually go for, though and would surely be significantly cheaper, too. Let’s wait and see if any further information emerges.
