Liverpool are keeping an eye on four players who’ve been called up to represent their country’s at the U21 European Championship this summer.

The tournament is set to get underway in Georgia and Romania on June 21st. And according to The Athletic, this year’s edition will be of particular interest to the Reds.

They claim that after signing Alexis Mac Allister earlier this week, Liverpool now have four further targets ‘under consideration.’

Ryan Gravenberch, Khephren Thuram, Manu Kone and Romeo Lavia are all reportedly being monitored. With the players called up for the Netherlands, France and Belgium respectively, they’ll all have hopes of winning the competition.

From a Liverpool point of view, this will be well worth watching, then. As the Reds are hoping to tie up any deal early on in the window, perhaps getting knocked out early may actually benefit this quartet.

Liverpool looking to youth

As Liverpool look to follow up the Mac Allister signing, it looks like one – or two – of this four will be next.

There is another name being heavily linked, too. However, Gabri Veiga wasn’t called up for Spain. He also isn’t mentioned in this report from The Athletic.

So, for now, let’s assume that whoever Liverpool are signing is from this here list.

There’s quite a bit of excitement surrounding both Thuram and Kone right now, and that pair look to be the priority. But in truth, it is a slightly underwhelming list from Liverpool.

Obviously, Jude Bellingham was the dream signing for a lot of fans. When it became clear that the 19-year-old was joining Real Madrid though, there was still a handful of slightly more impressive looking midfielders available.

Declan Rice is certain to leave West Ham United and will slot comfortably into whichever top team he joins. Meanwhile, Moises Caicedo and Mason Mount also look like higher calibre names on the market.

From that point of view, Liverpool supporters might feel slightly short-changed. But, it’s in these kinds of signings where Jurgen Klopp has had the most success at Anfield. With one peak of success ridden under the German, it’s time to start building towards another. To do that, they’re going back to where they came from. And we like it.

We’ll be glued to the U21 tournament over the next few weeks, and you should be too!
