Liverpool are yet to make a significant breakthrough in talks to sign Manu Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach.
After tying up a deal to sign Alexis Mac Allister yesterday, it looks like the Reds aren’t finished in the market yet. They’re reportedly set to target Kone as well as Khephren Thuram over the coming weeks.
And according to Football Transfers, Liverpool have already begun talks with both players over joining them.

But while they’re said to have struck an initial agreement with Thuram, discussions with Kone aren’t quite as advanced. It’s claimed that the 22-year-old ‘remains a target,’ though and will be available for around £30m.
At that price, both Chelsea and Newcastle United are reportedly interested, too. Talks look set to continue as Liverpool try to wrap up more early business.
Liverpool firming up Kone interest
It’s been an exciting few days for Liverpool fans. Having gone almost three years without signing a first-team midfielder, they could soon be looking at a trio of brand new ones.
The race for Mac Allister has already been won and – such is the world of modern day transfers – supporters are now starting to ask, ‘who’s next?’
Right now, the smart money would absolutely have to be on either Kone or Thuram, or both.

There is a small clutch of other names being mentioned, too. After the signing of Mac Allister yesterday, a couple of outlets named Ryan Gravenberch and Romeo Lavia alongside the French pair.
But looking at the way things are going, Gravenberch and Lavia would look like back-up options to Kone and Thuram. Should talks with the former fail to progress soon, maybe Liverpool will decide to move on.
With Jorg Schmadtke’s son now installed as Gladbach sporting director though, you’d hope things would start to become smoother.
It remains to be seen whether the pursuit of Thuram and Kone is an either/or situation. The two players are very close friends, though. Hopefully we find a breakthrough for both soon. And then, joint announcement, anyone?
