Reported Liverpool target Evan Ndicka is in talks with Roma over joining them as a free agent.
Ndicka looks set to leave Eintracht Frankfurt for nothing this summer, with Liverpool mooted as a potential destination. But with the centre-back one of the most attractive free transfers on the market, there was always going to be plenty of competition.
Now, as per journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, that competition has begun to ramp up. Romano claims that Roma have stolen a march on other suitors, opening talks with Ndicka over a move to Italy.

“AS Roma have offered five year deal to Evan N’Dicka to join on free transfer this summer — talks ongoing,” wrote the journalist.
With no mention of other clubs being involved just yet, it looks like Liverpool may have some catching up to do.
Liverpool focusing on midfield… for now
In a window where clubs are looking for extortionate fees pretty much across the board, Ndicka looks like being a real bargain.
Still just twenty-three, he has room to grow into one of the best defenders on the continent. With Liverpool forever looking for value signings, the Frenchman would tick a lot of boxes.
But for the moment, the Reds are having to prioritise their midfield. They simply can’t allow for a scenario where they miss out on top targets in that area of the pitch in favour of chasing defenders.

The longer the window goes on, the higher prices clubs will drive for their players.
Liverpool’s remit should be crystal clear by now: get the right midfielders through the door, then move onto a defender, if possible.
By that time, if Ndicka is still yet to sign for Roma, or any other club, then the Reds should become involved. It’s too good an opportunity not to.
But if the Eintracht man is taken off the market by Mourinho, then not to worry, Liverpool will have another plan. They usually do.
