Reported Liverpool target Ivan Fresneda could be sold for as little as £17m this summer.

Fresneda is one of the game’s most promising up-and-coming right-backs. His displays as an 18-year-old for Real Valladolid have reportedly caught the eye of a number of big clubs, including Liverpool.

And now with Valladolid’s relegation from La Liga confirmed, journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed on Twitter that Fresneda has just seen his asking price slashed.

“Ivan Fresneda’s release clause is now available for €20m [£17.2m] after Valladolid’s relegation, confirmed — as [Spanish outlet] Relevo reported,” wrote the transfer expert.

“Sources feel Fresneda could still leave for less than €20m in the summer. Interest but NO bid from Arsenal. Dortmund, strongly interested.”

Liverpool keeping an eye on Fresneda bargain

Liverpool aren’t named as an interested party by Romano here. The journalist has been updating Reds fans on their pursuit of midfielders this morning, though.

Despite that, we don’t see why the Reds shouldn’t throw their hat in the ring for Fresneda. They’re supposedly in the market for a right-back this summer and the Spaniard’s age, price-tag and potential mark him out as an ideal candidate.

Obviously, he may have better chances of being a starter elsewhere. But with it yet to be seen whether Trent Alexander-Arnold makes a permanent move to midfield, he could still carve out a role for himself at Liverpool.

Regardless, for this kind of price, Fresneda is a worth a punt. His team may have gone down this season but that shouldn’t reflect on him.

Still only very young, he clearly has the ability to play at a higher level than he has been doing. With respect to Valladolid.

Whether or not Fresneda ends up at Liverpool will perhaps depend on how strong other clubs push to get him. The Reds are currently laser-focused on beefing up their midfield, and may only look at other positions once that’s done. If this teenager is still on the market then though, don’t be surprised if Liverpool make their move.
