Stan Collymore has suggested that Liverpool are getting the better deal by signing Alexis Mac Allister instead of Mason Mount this summer.
Mac Allister is expected to join the Reds in the coming weeks. A deal with Brighton is all but agreed and the South American could become Jurgen Klopp’s first summer signing.
Of course, Mount has been linked for some time as well. But he seems to be off to Manchester United in a mega-money transfer.
But according to Collymore, United are overpaying for Mount and in the end, it will be Liverpool who get the best value for money.

Collymore questions Mason Mount
Writing in his latest Column for the Sunday People, Collymore was discussing the summer window for United and Liverpool.
And commenting on the midfield options, Collymore claims Mac Allister will be far better value than Mount right now.
“Mount is a good player but he doesn’t give you defensive prowess or creativity from midfield. He’s a player to complement what you already have,” Collymore said. (p58, 04/06)
“By comparison, Liverpool are looking at Alexis Mac Allister, a World Cup winner who can get past people in the blink of an eye and also be a nuisance defensively. If he’s available for £60m, I see value in that. Another £20m for Mount? I’d be looking at Moises Caicedo or even Conor Gallagher as an alternative.”
RTK’s View: Collymore actually makes a valid point
There’s a lot of opinions in football and some are a bit wide of the mark. But Stan actually makes a really good point here in terms of value for money.
The £80m+ fee for Mount does seem a huge fee. It’s definitely got the English player premium on there and Liverpool are probably wise to avoid paying such a price.
Mac Allister is still expensive at around £60m. But that £20-25m can be big for the Reds in the summer as we look to add to different positions.
Mount will likely do just fine over at Old Trafford. But Mac Allister will suit Liverpool just fine as well, and being cheaper, represents good value for money.
