Liverpool are looking at Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone as one of their options in the summer transfer market.

Kone is said to be on the radar of the Reds as they seek to add a number of new midfielders to the ranks.

The 22-year-old has impressed in the Bundesliga. However, he won’t come cheap and according to reports, might cost even more than Liverpool first anticipated.

Liverpool need to find £40m to sign Manu Kone

The Reds’ interest in Kone is nothing brand new. It stems back to a few months ago when Jurgen Klopp first presented his name as a target for FSG to pursue.

However, the price then was said to be closer to the £26m mark. That sort of money is more than affordable for Liverpool, even if they do splash the cash elsewhere.

But according to the Daily Mail, Kone’s value has now soared back up and Liverpool will need to pay £40m to even stand a chance of landing the midfielder.

Lauded as a ‘very strong’ midfield player, Kone fits the bill in many ways for the Reds.

Alexis Mac Allister is set to seal a move to Anfield this week. But Kone could still join, with Klopp wanting more than just one new face in midfield.

RTK’s View: £40m nothing in today’s game

Sure, the £26m price tag sounds a bit nicer and gives us more room to play with, but the reality is that a £40m midfielder in today’s market is not actually huge money.

We all know the Reds have money to spend this summer. And if Klopp thinks Kone can do the business in midfield, then FSG need to be backing him.

Mac Allister will be a great signing. But the Reds need to supplement that signing with even more and Kone could well be ideal alongside the Argentinian.
