Feyenoord captain Orkun Kokcu is now a priority target for Liverpool in this summer’s transfer window.

Kokcu has so far only been tentatively linked with a move to the Reds, having just captained Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title. But according to Football Transfers, that could now change.

They claim that the 22-year-old is ‘high on the agenda’ at Anfield, alongside Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone. Talks with both those players are said to be well underway.

Kokcu, meanwhile, doesn’t appear to have been engaged by Liverpool just yet. However, the Turk is reportedly towards the top of their summer wish list.

Whether or not a move is pursued is said to be purely down to what Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke decide.

Liverpool weighing up Kokcu move

Out of the three names mentioned here, Kokcu is perhaps the one Reds fans will know the least about. Kone and Thuram aren’t exactly household names yet either, but the French Ligue 1 remains more accessible than its Dutch counterpart.

For that reason, there may not be the same level of excitement over the Turkey international.

But there should be.

Yes, it’s in a slightly less competitive league, but Kokcu has been excelling for Feyenoord since he was seventeen. Five years on and he’s now the captain and leader of an exciting group of players under Arne Slot.

10 goal contributions in the Eredivisie may not be as many as last year’s 15, but it’s still pretty good. As a versatile player capable of ably using both feet, Kokcu looks like he’s ready for the next step.

He also looks like being on the market for around £34m. At that price, and with the player’s qualities, it’s no wonder Liverpool’s interest has been piqued.

It remains to be seen whether they follow that interest up with anything more concrete. But there’s a few very good reasons why he should be right in the mix.
