Liverpool want to renew ‘special’ player’s contract as a priority, he’s only got two years left

Liverpool are set to make the renewal of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract a priority topic.

The 24-year-old last signed fresh terms in the summer of 2021, running until 2025. Since then, he’s had his struggles, but has also cemented himself as one of Liverpool’s absolute key players.

With two years now to run on his current agreement, The Athletic report that Alexander-Arnold will be the Red’s focus in terms of contract extensions.

There’s said to be ‘no rush’ on talks beginning, however, with plenty of time still to get things done.

In the meantime, Adrian is reportedly in talks to extend his contract, which is set to end next month. Thiago Alcantatra and Joel Matip also get a mention, with both now entering the final year on their respective deals. For the time being though, it’s claimed that there’s ‘no great urgency’ for either to be granted fresh terms.

Liverpool preparing Trent extension

Isn’t it amazing how quickly these things end up coming around. It doesn’t seem two minutes since Trent put pen to paper on his last, four-year contract back in 2021.

But with the right-back now halfway through that deal, the time is right to start looking ahead to his next one.

Once the summer transfer business is done, Liverpool shouldn’t wait around on this one. They don’t want to let it get to the point where Trent is heading towards the last year of his deal.

Should that happen, as unfeasible as it might seem, clubs may start sniffing around the Scouser.

And although he has been much decried – particularly in the last year – there isn’t a team on the planet who wouldn’t have our No.66. As Micah Richards said recently, he’s a truly ‘special’ player.

Thankfully, the Reds hierarchy seem to be on top of things to stop them reaching that point. It’s perhaps telling that when the likes of Fabinho and Alisson Becker signed deals at the same time as Trent, they did so for one and two years extra respectively.

With the Brazilian pair slightly older, that makes some sense. It’s likely that Alexander-Arnold instead has some room still to make sure he has a pay increase before he turns twenty-five or twenty-six. From there, a deal should see him into his late twenties or even thirties. Get it done, Liverpool.
