Jordan Henderson says Liverpool have a ‘tremendous’ player who is so underrated

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson thinks that Anfield teammate James Milner is ‘taken for granted’ by the outside world.

Milner is set to depart Liverpool on a free transfer this summer, ending eight years of impeccable service. There’s likely to be plenty of tributes paid to the 37-year-old over the coming weeks, and in an interview via BeanymanSports, Henderson led the plaudits.

“Tremendous amount of value to the team,” said the 32-year-old of Milner. “I think the manager said it perfectly when he said we wouldn’t have achieved anything without Milly. He’s such a big character and such a big leader within the team, it’ll definitely be strange not seeing him at Liverpool next season.

“He’s been incredible ever since he came to the club. He helped me a lot, and other players around him. Probably taken for granted a little bit as a player from the outside, but on the inside he’s got so much respect from all of the players and all of the staff. We wish him all the vey best in whatever his next chapter looks like.”

Liverpool will certainly have a new lactate test winner come pre-season, at the very least! All the very best, Milly!

Milner set for Anfield farewell

We haven’t yet heard from Milner himself on his decision to walk away from Liverpool this summer. It’ll be interesting to hear what the Yorkshireman has to say about his time at the club.

But for the time being – for once- he seems to be letting others do the talking for him.

That may change tomorrow as the vice-captain says goodbye to the stadium he’s called home for almost a decade. Never one to shy away from a post-match interview, expect to hear from the man himself once Liverpool have hopefully collected three points from Aston Villa.

Because as Milly will no doubt be telling everyone who’ll listen, there’s still a football match to be won on Saturday. The Reds top-four hopes may be slim, but they remain alive. Anything but a win tomorrow and that will probably no longer be the case.

Should Milner get on the pitch – and given the circumstances you can’t imagine Klopp not bringing him on – it would be his 30th Premier League appearance this season. That’ll be the first time the veteran has hit that marker since the 2018/19 season.

As Henderson says, stats of that nature only prove that he remains what he’s always been for Liverpool: useful, important and underrated. Things won’t be the same without Milner, but we’re going to have to get used to it.
