Jordan Henderson makes exciting Liverpool transfer claim

Jordan Henderson is expecting Liverpool to bring in a number of new players to ‘freshen up’ the team this summer.

Liverpool have been off the pace this season, finding themselves scrabbling for a top-four place with just two games to go. Having been challenging for the Premier League title of late, and winning many more trophies besides, it’s been quite the climbdown for the Reds.

As a result, plenty of business is expected in the transfer window. At the very least, the departing quartet of James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita will need to be replaced. And as per a new interview shared by BeanymanSports on YouTube, it would seem Henderson agrees, to an extent anyway.

“I don’t think its a rebuild to be honest, I do think there’ll be new players coming in. A rebuild is changing an entire team, which I don’t think we’ll be doing,” said the Reds captain. “I think you’ve got a lot of core players in the team that will still be there and still are in great shape to compete and be successful.

“But yes, it’ll need freshening up, of course, with players leaving and trying to improve the team. So, I’m sure that players will be coming in at some point to give us a boost, freshen things up a bit and hopefully put us in a good position come the first game of the season.”

Liverpool prepare midfield for surgery

Perhaps Henderson is right here. For much of the season it had looked like Liverpool were indeed in need of a major rebuild. Players who had previously looked like superstars had started to drop their standards alarmingly, and all at the same time.

But since the turn of April, the Reds have seemed more like what they really are: a very good team who suffered the physical and emotional toll of playing a 63-game season last year.

It’s taken a while for everyone to get last campaign, and the poor results of this one, out of their systems. Now that the tide has turned a little though, things are looking very positive.

You can see the bones of a really exciting team coming through. The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones are all twenty-four or under. Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota aren’t too much older, while Stefan Bajcetic and Harvey Elliott have years ahead of them.

Throw in a sprinkling of more experienced players like Alisson Becker, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, and you’ve got a proper team.

Obviously, the one area where Liverpool look weak is the midfield. That’s an area of the pitch which undoubtedly needs some pretty big work doing to it.

Henderson might not want to hear that, as it means his regular spot in the team is in enormous peril. But the time has come. He’ll be thirty-three next month and, right now, he looks it. With Thiago and Fabinho also looking older and more sluggish, the time is now for a change. Thankfully, it looks like we’ll get it. An exciting window awaits.
