Liverpool are reportedly closer to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia than Manchester City, with Pep Guardiola yet to decide if he wants the Belgian back.
According to journalist Sasha Tavolieri via The Redmen TV, the Anfield side are in pole position to land the teenage talent, with Lavia expected to leave Southampton this summer after their relegation to the Championship.
Only signing last year, Lavia has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting talents, and Liverpool could now look to make a move for the former City wonderkid, who could cost as much as £40m according to reports.
With Liverpool keen to sign as many as three central midfielders this summer, Lavia could be an outstanding addition to the squad given his age and Premier League experience, and the Reds are now seemingly winning the race for the Belgian youngster.
Tavolieri said on Liverpool;s interest in Lavia; “As it stands, Liverpool are the closest club [to signing Lavia]. At the moment there’s no real sign from Guardiola that he wants him back. It looks like Manchester City are waiting to see what happens with Gundogan before they decide what they want to do with Lavia”

Lavia has proven his worth at Southampton this season as one of the most exciting midfield talents in Europe, and for Liverpool, the Reds simply have to sign the 19-year-old to add to their ranks ahead of next season, especially with City in the mix.
As we know, Liverpool want multiple midfielders this summer, and with Lavia one of the youngest players competing regularly in the Premier League, the Southampton wonderkid makes a lot of sense as a signing for Klopp and his side in the market.
