Jamie Carragher says Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is in ‘the form of his life’ after a hat-trick of assists against Leicester City tonight.

He may not have got on the score sheet on Monday evening, but Salah was absolutely pivotal to the Reds seventh win in a row. Three goals for Liverpool, all set up by the Egyptian King.

Perhaps the most impressive was his first of the night. Picking the ball up inside the Leicester area, Mo dug out a perfect lofted cross for Curtis Jones to run onto and slot home. And speaking to Sky Sports at half-time, Carragher made a point of highlighting Salah’s continued brilliance.

“You talk about Salah again, he’s involved heavily, you talk about Liverpool and we might get into it a bit more about this new set-up,” said the Reds legend. “You have five attacking players to really go forward and the real benefit of this system has really benefitted Curtis Jones.

“But that pass from Mo Salah is brilliant, it really is. And he’s in the form of his life right now. There was a thought that maybe it might not happen for him this season, but he’s in the form of his life.”

Salah making up for lost time

Amidst the headline displays from Jones and Trent Alexander-Arnold on Monday, Mo might get lost a little. But the 30-year-old was superb yet again.

Remarkably, he’s just set another little personal milestone for the season: the first time he’s ever clocked up a hat-trick of assists in a single game. Even when he doesn’t find the net, Salah has a huge impact.

He really should have had a goal, too. Put through one-on-one late in the game, Mo somehow shanked his shot a good distance wide of Daniel Iversen’s goal. You’d have put your house on him scoring.

Nevertheless, it didn’t blemish what was a magnificent overall display. When Liverpool have really needed him in the last six weeks, Mo has stepped up hugely. This was another example of that.

Just the eight goals and three assists in the Reds’ last 10 Premier League games. Tonight made him only the second player in the division to hit double figures for goals and assists, too. Woof.

If Salah can take this red-hot form into next season, we’ll be laughing. His struggle to get going at the beginning of this campaign is one of the reasons Liverpool find themselves in the position they are.

But having now set about making up for lost time, Mo is looking back to his best. Carragher certainly thinks so, and we do too.
