Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold says he still expects to become one of the best players on the planet.
To many Reds supporters, the right-back is already exactly that. But speaking to LADbible, Alexander-Arnold suggested that he still isn’t quite there yet. However, he firmly believes that one day, he will be.
“I think just being for me season by season, one of the best players in the world. I think that’s achievable and that’s kind of an expectation now,” said the 24-year-old.

“Whether people agree with it or not, or don’t think I am, if I think I am then I know that I have played to a level that is top 10 or top five in the world then I’m happy with that.”
After a difficult season, Trent’s recent switch to a midfield position has reminded supporters of just how good he is. We’re lucky to have such a quality, ambitious young player so committed to Liverpool.
Trent out to conquer the world
To be honest, Trent had already boxed off being the best right-back in the world before turning twenty-two. Some will disagree of course, but no one in the same position can match the influence he had between 2018 and 2020. Phenomenal.
Now that he’s looking like making a permanent switch into a different kind of role, it’ll be difficult to maintain that. The competition for the best players around is more fierce for central midfielders.

But having said that, the early signs from Trent are absolutely exceptional. He’s already drawn comparisons to Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne. Our No.66 has also been labelled as better than Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice.
If he can keep up this influence into next season and beyond, then those comparisons will be completely justified.
There isn’t a side on the earth that wouldn’t have Alexander-Arnold in their team. Despite his struggles for much of the current season, you’d think that that would remain the case. Thankfully for us though, Trent’s going nowhere.
Still only twenty-four, the Scouser is bound to improve and improve as he gets used to another new role. As he does that, he should expect to be in these kinds of conversations moving forward.
