Florian Wirtz has admitted that he is ignoring transfer rumours amid recent reports that Liverpool are interested in signing the 20-year-old.

Speaking to CBS Sports, the Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid revealed that he is staying focused on his performances with the Bundesliga side, with Wirtz returning to his best under Xabi Alonso after missing half the season through an ACL injury.

With Bild reporting that Wirtz could be worst as much as £125m, the German international is easily one of the most exciting talents in all of Europe, with journalist Rory Smith recently revealing that Liverpool are one of the sides chasing the Leverkusen magician.

However, the player himself seems keen to remain in Germany having missed most of the season through injury, with Wirtz saying when asked about his future: “I’m here in Leverkusen. We have a good team. We have a young team. I have a lot of friends. I am just fully concentrating on my tasks here.

“I have some of my own personal goals to accomplish here in Leverkusen so I’m really not looking or thinking about other clubs and instead just proving out there that I can be the best player that I can be in each game and helping the team win games.”

Having spent so long out through injury this season, it only makes sense that Wirtz is keen to remain at Leverkusen to get his career back up to speed, and for Liverpool, this could mean waiting some years before they can make a concrete move to sign the German.

Moreover, with Liverpool in a state of transition, there’s every chance that Klopp will soon pass up on the option to sign Wirtz despite his obvious qualities, with the 20-year-old a player who could struggle to find his own role at Anfield given his unique positional skills.
