Jurgen Klopp personally wants Youri Tielemans to join Liverpool in the summer.

That is according to a report in Football Transfers, who claims that the Liverpool boss is a big fan of Tielemans’ versatility.

The move reportedly also appeals to Liverpool as they can pick up the Belgian on a free transfer.

With the Reds wanting at least another two additions in midfield, the likes of Mason Mount and Alexis MacAllister are looking like being expensive purchases.

As a result, Liverpool’s remaining budget may have to be spent frugally – and the option of bringing on Tielemans on a free transfer is obviously eye-catching.

Tielemans to Liverpool?

Tielemans could play as a shield in front of the defence or in a more advanced position, as a shuttling number eight.

His quality on the ball is actually undoubted, and he has proven over a number of years at Leicester that he possesses a great passing range.

However, there is surely some concern over the 26-year-old’s physicality and pace in a Klopp side.

With Liverpool looking for energy to aid their counter-pressing style, Tielemans is, perhaps, not the most natural fit in that respect.

The Belgian is far more gifted in possession than he is out of it. He is more of a Thiago than a Georginio Wijnaldum.

But you can understand the logic of grabbing him off the market as a squad option.

With Arthur surely heading back at the end of his loan, James Milner leaving, Fabio Carvalho’s future uncertain, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita in line to depart, it is clear that Liverpool need midfield reinforcements.

And bringing in a player of Tielemans’ quality and with his Premier League experience without having to spend any money does seem rather appealing.

His ability to score goals from midfield could also be a useful quality for Liverpool.

Tielemans is one of the finest strikes of a football in the Premier League and boasts scoring one of the best goals in FA Cup final history, after netting the winner against Chelsea in 2021.
