Liverpool expect Mason Mount to make a decision on his future before the end of the Premier League season.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Mount as they rebuild their midfield this summer. And according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are still the team in the box seat should the 24-year-old decide to leave Chelsea.
“Because Liverpool are all about a bargain, because Jurgen Klopp really likes Mount and sees him as a fit, there is a real chance that Mount leaves and there’s a real chance that that’s to Liverpool,” Jacobs told The Football Terrace.

“But make absolutely no mistake here, Chelsea have not given up, Chelsea have not agreed to sell Mount. Chelsea would like Mount to extend but it has to be a compromise.
“Concurrently, Liverpool will push, so Mount may well decide on Liverpool. The situation will become clearer in my opinion towards the end of April or by the middle of May.”
Liverpool make their move on Mount
As well as providing this little nugget of information to move this saga forward, Jacobs claimed that Liverpool have already begun conversations with Mount’s camp. The journalist says the Reds have in-fact already done plenty of ‘leg-work’ to bring the player to Anfield.
“They have made a move on the player’s side already. This isn’t a case of something that will develop, Liverpool have put in leg-work on the player side, on the scouting side, internally within the recruitment team. It’s just what Liverpool do,” he said.

“They know there’s a window of opportunity, they know that if they get Mount they’ll get him at value. There’s a lot to like about Mason Mount if you’re Liverpool.”
There certainly is. He may not be as glamorous as a Jude Bellingham type signing, but there’s little doubt that the Chelsea man would improve the current version of Liverpool.
Versatile, technical and fit as a fiddle, Mount fits all the parameters Jurgen Klopp looks for in a midfielder. Throw in the fact that he could be available for a reasonable fee and his home-grown status, and you’re onto a winner.
As Jacobs points out, Liverpool know as much. They deserve criticism at times, but the Reds’ recruitment team still remain very much on-point when identifying players to fit Klopp’s squad. What will perhaps put them off is that Chelsea are claimed to be looking for as much as £70m to sell Mount this summer. With a year left on his deal though, they must be dreaming. May is creeping up, let’s see what Mason decides.
