Liverpool are prioritising the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount this summer.
The Reds have been linked with a plethora of players as they desperately look to upgrade their midfield. Mount has been one of the names most heavily put forward over the last few months. And over recent days Mac Allister has emerged as perhaps an even greater target.
Now, writing in his column for CaughtOffside, journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that both players are front and centre as Liverpool’s primary targets.

“Alexis Mac Allister and Mason Mount remain the priorities for Liverpool, who could make multiple midfield signings this summer,” wrote the transfer expert.
With both players seemingly on the market for different reasons, hopefully the Reds can get them both over the line.
Liverpool targets becoming more clear
Interestingly, both Mount and Mac Allister have relatively similar profiles. Neither have played as a traditional midfielder for most of their careers. Rather, both are slightly more attack-minded, even creative No.10 types.
In Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool’s system though, there isn’t really room for this kind of profile. As a result, we think that the two players are being highlighted as potential options to play the box-to-box role the Reds badly need.

In that respect, you’d say neither look quite as natural-a fit as previous top target Jude Bellingham. But both have legs, excellent technical ability and can chip in with goals, too.
Right now, Klopp doesn’t really have a player like that at his disposal.
If Liverpool were to sign these two players and only these two players, fans may still be left wanting a little more, though. Arguably the Reds now have an even greater need for a new No.6.
As a result, if, for example, a Manuel Ugarte type player was brought in alongside, that would be ideal. Without sewing that growing hole in the squad up, Liverpool could still find themselves a little light in midfield come September.
