Journalist shares what he's now hearing about Alexis Mac Allister joining Liverpool

There has been no contact between Liverpool and Brighton over the possible transfer of Alexis Mac Allister.

That’s according to The Athletic journalist Andy Naylor. Naylor, who covers Brighton exclusively for the publication, took to Twitter today to dismiss rumours that Liverpool have agreed a fee with the Seagulls for the Argentine.

“Ignore the noise/reports re: Mac Allister and Liverpool,” he wrote. “As things stand, there has been no contact between the clubs….and Brighton aren’t expecting any.”

In a separate tweet, the journalist then cleared up that he was referring to contact between the clubs, not necessarily between Liverpool and Mac Allister himself.

“I’m referring to suggestions that a fee has been agreed. Transfer speculation is always fluid,” Naylor clarified. “I can’t predict what will happen in the future. When/if Liverpool or anyone else turn interest into a bid. I can report, via reliable sources, what the situation is at a given moment.”

Brighton push back on Mac Allister claims

Over the past few days, reports from the likes of Fabrizio Romano have confirmed direct contact between Liverpool and Mac Allister.

There may have been no communication between the clubs as of yet, but that doesn’t mean things aren’t moving forward.

On the contrary, it seems as though Mac Allister is still very much Liverpool’s main man in this window. If Brighton haven’t received any bid for his services yet, then it’s surely only a matter of time before they do.

It also seems quite clear that the 24-year-old is keen to take the next step in his career. The Reds have reportedly received ‘encouragement’ from him that he’s open to that being at Anfield.

Should Liverpool get their ducks in a row with Mac Allister and his father, maybe then they’ll finally come to the table to negotiate with Brighton.

Throughout this saga so far, Romano in particular has been a vocal reporter on it. It will be interesting to see if and how he responds to these claims from a well-connected local journalist.
