Reported Liverpool target Mason Mount doesn’t score contribute anywhere near enough goals.
That’s the view of TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor. Speaking on the radio station yesterday, Agbonlahor argued with a caller who claimed that Mount is a ‘great’ player.
“He scored 27 goals in 129 appearances, it’s not fantastic is it, let’s be honest here,” said the former England striker. “The stats show that he’s not. He’s an okay player but he’s not doing outstanding.

“Mason Mount is an attacking midfielder, he should be scoring goals. He brings nothing. [Arsenal’s Martin] Odegaard’s got 14 goals in one season.”
Wait until he hears that Chelsea are reportedly asking for £70m to take him away from Stamford Bridge this summer!
Mount criticised for lack of goals
Liverpool fans won’t be too worried about opinions like these from Agbonlahor. The former Aston Villa man is rarely on the money.
Instead, they should be excited about the prospect of Mount potentially turning out for them. He may not be the most prolific of players, but that would hardly be his job at Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp already has the players he needs to get him goals. Between Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, the Reds should have enough in that department.
So, if Mount is signed – and that’s still a big if – he shouldn’t have to worry about that. It’s much more likely that his main remit would be shuttling about in the midfield and ensuring Liverpool press as hard as possible. Whatever Agbonlahor says, he’s more than capable of doing that to a high level.
That’s why Liverpool have reportedly installed him as one of their top transfer targets this summer. As of now, it looks likely that Mount will leave Chelsea. Should that come to pass, the Reds seem to be right at the front of the queue.
With an injury ruling him out for the rest of the Blues’ season, the next time Mount gets the chance to prove Agbonlahor wrong could be while wearing the red of Liverpool. We look forward to the prospect of him doing just that.
