Liverpool told to go and sign 28-year-old midfielder now, he’d be perfect for Klopp

Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot would be a perfect summer signing for Liverpool this year.

That’s the view of former Reds defender Glen Johnson. Rabiot looks set to be available on a free transfer at the end of the season and has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield.

And speaking to GG Recon about the France international, Johnson said he’s a player Liverpool should ‘definitely’ look to be bringing in.

“From what I’ve seen of him on the pitch, then I can see 100% why Jürgen may want to bring Adrien to Anfield,” he said. “I don’t know the guy personally or what goes on behind the scenes but from what I’ve seen of him on the pitch, you can see that he’s a top player.

“He’s performed at the highest level for the biggest clubs, so you’d want to sign him for what you see of him on the pitch, but I don’t know what he’s like off the pitch. I definitely believe he’s a player that Liverpool should look to sign.”

Rabiot set to depart Juventus

As we hurtle towards the end of the season, Rabiot’s contract situation at Juventus is still unclear. It’s been reported in pretty equal measure that the 28-year-old is both happy at Juve and also willing to leave.

With just a few weeks of his deal left though, the smart money would probably be on him playing his football elsewhere come September.

To that end Rabiot is reportedly very keen to come to England. He is a self-confessed Liverpool fan and the Reds’ need for midfielders have led to a lot of people putting two and two together.

However, you won’t find too many people agreeing with Johnson’s point of view here. A gifted player he may be, but Rabiot is not what Liverpool need right now.

Klopp needs players four or five years younger who will command potentially half the wages the Frenchman would be asking for.

On a free he’ll end up being a good signing for someone. But we fancy Glen’s pleas to fall on deaf ears where Liverpool are concerned.
