Jamie Redknapp has said that Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate looked completely shattered against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
In a crazy game of football, Liverpool’s defence looked all at sea for much of the match, as Spurs almost completed a surprising come-back.
The Reds raced into a 3-0 lead but then did their best to throw the advantage away, after allowing Tottenham to score a late leveller.
Thankfully, Diogo Jota then netted a winner in injury time to save the three points.
But it certainly wasn’t the Liverpool defence’s finest hour.
And Redknapp felt that Konate, in particular, looked seriously tired by the end of the match.
He said to Sky Sports: “Konate had to run into areas all game where he found it really difficult, he looked incredibly tired having to chase Son.”
Ibrahima Konate’s changing role
In fairness to Konate, he is being asked to cover a lot more ground now than ever before.
With Trent Alexander-Arnold given licence to stroll into midfield, it means that he has to defend one v one down the right-flank a lot.

He is still adjusting to the role, and there are few tougher tests in the Premier League than facing Son.
Despite, his struggles though, Konate surely remains a key foundation of this Liverpool defence.
And we are sure that the £36 million signing from RB Leipzig will be back to his very best soon, as he adjusts to his new position over the coming weeks and months.
