Jordan Henderson has lauded Cody Gakpo after the Liverpool winger was again on the scoresheet in last night’s 2-1 win against West Ham.
Speaking to the Athletic, the England international was full of praise for the 23-year-old attacker, who fired Liverpool back into the match against the Irons with an 18th-minute equaliser, bringing his tally for the season on Merseyside to six in all competitions.
Signed in January from PSV, Gakpo has adapted well to life in the Premier League having identified himself as a versatile attacking option for Jurgen Klopp, with the Dutch international hotly tipped to lead the line for Liverpool next season.
And for Henderson, the Liverpool skipper has been amazed from what he has seen from the winter signing, with Henderson saying on Gakpo’s latest performance against West Ham: “Cody has been brilliant since he came in the door.
“It was a difficult period for us as a team but he’s been the one really who has been really consistent with his performances. He’s an outstanding player. He’s made a big difference for us in games. He wants to learn and he works so hard. Long may it continue.”
Henderson’s praise is a big statement on Gakpo’s impact at Liverpool
Gakpo might have got off to a slow start at Anfield at the beginning of this year, yet the 23-year-old is now fully establishing himself as a key player for Liverpool, with Henderson’s praise more than warranted for the Dutch international.
Whilst six goal goals in 15 Premier League appearances isn’t what the likes of Mohamed Salah or even Diogo Jota hit for Liverpool in the same sample size, Gakpo has show that he is more than just goals, and the attacker will no doubt play a key role for the Reds in the seasons to come.
