Liverpool staff are sympathetic towards Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo after a disastrous loan spell at Anfield.
Disaster might actually be too kind-a word to describe Arthur’s stay on Merseyside this season. Having been brought in as a panic buy on deadline day last September, the 26-year-old has played just 13 minutes of football.
A long-term injury picked up in October was a big reason for that. But it’s also probably the case that Arthur was just never really good enough to be what Liverpool needed in their midfield.

According to The Athletic though, the former Barcelona man is still thought of in high-regard around the club. There is reportedly ‘plenty of sympathy’ towards Arthur, with a feeling that he’s never really had the chance to do himself justice.
It’s claimed that ‘no one has a bad word to say’ about the Brazilian in the halls of the AXA Training Centre. Although he hasn’t made an impact on the pitch, it seems he’s still made an impression in other ways.
Arthur preparing for Liverpool exit
When the story of Liverpool’s 2022/23 campaign is written, Arthur’s stay will be a fascinating footnote. What were the Reds thinking last summer?
For all the curiousness surrounding his arrival, there was genuine hope that he could make an impact.
Having played at the very top level for Barcelona, Juventus and Brazil, Arthur did come with plenty of pedigree. With near enough zero expectation on him, there was a twinkle of excitement that he could do something at Liverpool.

In the end that couldn’t have been further from happening. It now looks likely that Arthur will leave without any more minutes to his name.
Given the regard he’s held in though, it would be nice to see him given a run out at Anfield at some stage. Liverpool’s season isn’t quite a damp squib, but they’re not really playing for anything at this stage.
A top four berth remains a possibility, but after Newcastle’s dominating display at Tottenham, it feels unlikely to happen. As a result, Jurgen Klopp should at least give Arthur his moment. Some will dismiss that as sentimental rubbish, but after the season he’s been through, our No.29 deserves to end it on a positive.
