Liverpool fans got another look at Trent Alexander-Arnold in his new midfield role this evening as they took on West Ham United.

Despite being away from home at the in-form Hammers, Jurgen Klopp gave the 24-year-old license to roam into the midfield at will.

And if his previous three displays in the position were good, then Alexander-Arnold was on another level here. After he claimed another assist – this time for Cody Gakpo – some Liverpool fans took to Twitter to voice their delight at what they’d witnessed.

Trent gets his joy back

Liverpool look a completely different side with their No.66 given a new role. Not only is he affecting games from the middle of the pitch, but he’s also looking reinvigorated defensively, too.

It’s almost as if the freedom to play more offensively has simply brought the joy back to his game. The Scouser suddenly looks more willing to put in the yards he wouldn’t have done earlier in the season.

In turn, Trent’s lease of life has given Liverpool generally a whole a new dimension. They look slicker, more joined up, more of a threat.

And there’s steel there too. Having fallen behind early doors away from home, Reds supporters would have been fearing the worst at the London Stadium. But Liverpool didn’t fold. They grew into the game and turned it right around.

Not all of this is down to Alexander-Arnold, of course. It doesn’t feel like this up-turn in form is merely a coincidence, though.

For now, let’s just hope it continues. When Trent is in the groove Liverpool are an infinitely better side. He hasn’t been in anything like that kind of form for most of the season. Now that he is, the England international is arguably looking even better than ever.
