Alan Shearer has claimed he’s been incredibly impressed by Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson lately.
Picking his Premier League team of the week, the Newcastle United legend selected the Scotsman alongside Diogo Jota in his XI.
Speaking of the defender, the pundit claimed 29-year-old deserves more praise for his recent performances.
“All the spotlight has been on [Trent] Alexander-Arnold but Robbo is back to his best form for Liverpool, setting up Diogo Jota’s second goal with another quality assist,” said Shearer.
Shearer picks Robertson in his team of the week
Whilst Robertson did pick out Jota well for his second goal of the game, we thought he also left a lot to be desired.
In the left-back position, the 29-year-old’s positioning was questionable. He was slow to close down Neco Williams for the Tricky Trees’s initial equaliser, and he also looked below par offensively.
In our opinion, the £8m full-back still looks unsure playing in a more central role, with the defence pushing across when Alexander-Arnold assumes his place in the middle of the park.
If this formation is to stay for the long-term, we wouldn’t be surprised if the Reds looked to bring in a new left-sided centre-back.
