Reds captain Jordan Henderson has shared what Liverpool really struggled with against Nottingham Forest yesterday.
Speaking in a post-match interview with the club’s official site, the midfielder claimed his team couldn’t cope with the opposition’s long throws, as they continually led to chances being made.
“Yeah, we made it difficult, [it’s] never easy with us but we managed to get the job done, which was the most important thing,” said Henderson.
“Obviously the long throws were killing us a little bit so that’s something we need to be better at, definitely, especially off the second ball off them.
“But hopefully we can learn from that and there was no damage done with the three points in the end.”
Liverpool struggled defensively
Apart from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s back-line left a lot to be desired against Steve Cooper’s side yesterday.
Even Alisson Becker wasn’t immune to mistakes, despite his incredible form this season, as his awful clearance led to the throw for Forest’s second goal.
At centre-back, both Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk were sloppy. A few errors and lapses of concentration led to huge chances in front of goal, so the Reds were somewhat lucky to come away with three points.
At left-back, Andy Robertson’s positioning was questionable. He was slow to close down Neco Williams for the Tricky Trees’s initial equaliser, and he also looked below par offensively.
Overall, Liverpool really weren’t great yesterday, as Forest’s long throws did cause the defence trouble.
This is something they certainly need to work on going forward.
