Reported Liverpool target Moises Caicedo has suggested that he could be looking to leave Brighton this summer.
Caicedo has been rumoured to be on Liverpool’s radar as they attempt to overhaul their midfield. Having had an excellent campaign with Brighton, the 21-year-old looks ready to take the next step in his career.
For a time it had looked like he may do that during the January transfer window. But with his club reportedly rejecting an offer of £70m from Arsenal, he stayed put. Now, speaking to The Telegraph today, Caicedo said he was ‘sure’ that more opportunities will come his way.

“I’m sure I’m going to have many more opportunities. That’s why I continue to do things well,” he said. The winter offer from Arsenal was preceded by Caicedo handing in a very public plea for Brighton to let him leave. Looking back on that, the Ecuadorian admitted it had been a difficult time for him, but the support of Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi helped him through.
“It was tough. At the beginning when I didn’t end up going, lots of people would make fun of me on Instagram,” he explained. “People treated me badly. I didn’t check my social media because it would hurt me to see things. He [Roberto De Zerbi] approached me, we spoke and he told me to be calm. That it wouldn’t be the last club that would come in for me, I’d have more opportunities and he told me to keep on doing what I was doing and that I’ll see in the future I wouldn’t be sorry about staying.
“I just want to have a really good season with Brighton now, to finish off the season well and play really well and then we’ll see what happens next season.”
Caicedo ready to make his mark
With all due respect to Brighton, Caicedo simply has to be moved on this summer. The Seagulls are obviously a brilliantly run club and are aiming for European football next season. But the Ecuador international is a superstar in the making.
Clearly, the player himself wants to take the next step and for his club to prevent him from doing so wouldn’t be fair.

Some will argue against that. That Brighton have every right to hang onto Caicedo for as long as they possibly want. And that’s fair enough, they do. But when you’re valuing your players at £70m plus, as they reportedly are, then you’ve got to pay them relative to their worth.
As good as Brighton are and as good as they may become, they aren’t going to do that right now. So, let the man go and play in the upper echelons of the game.
If Brighton do play ball this summer, then Caicedo will have options to do that. Liverpool may not be at the front of the queue, but they’re reportedly readying talks with the Seagulls over transfers for both Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister.
It remains unlikely that the Reds will be able to snatch both players in the same summer. Right now, Mac Allister would appear the more likely signing. With Caicedo obviously open to a move too though, maybe he would be the better fit.
