Liverpool are in contact with the agents of Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah with a view to a summer move.
That’s according to 90min, who claim that the Reds have been monitoring Musah since before he turned out for USA at last year’s World Cup. Since then, it’s suggested that Liverpool have ‘remained in contact’ with the 20-year-old’s representatives.
They’re reportedly not the only ones, though. Chelsea are also said to have been keeping the lines of communication open. Meanwhile Arsenal have been ‘doing work’ to get Musah back to the club he left in 2019.
Newcastle United and Brighton have reportedly joined the list of interested Premier League clubs, while a clutch of European sides are also monitoring the midfielder. With plenty of options available to him, Musah is claimed to be ‘ready’ to leave Valencia.
For Valencia’s part, it sounds as though they’re all-but resigned to losing the player. Mired in a relegation battle and with financial struggles, they’re said to be in no place to reject ‘substantial’ bids for Musah. The USA international reportedly has an £88m release clause, but will seemingly be sold for far cheaper.
Musah set to be on the market
First and foremost, it’s such a shame to see Valencia in such trouble. The club of Rafael Benitez, David Villa, David Silva and many, many more is one of Spain’s great football institutions.
But relegation is now a real possibility for them. With nine games to play in La Liga, Los Che sit in 18th place. There is just three points between them and safety and most of the bottom half remains in some trouble. But it’s shocking all the same.
In that context, it’s no surprise to hear that Musah is wanting out. The former Arsenal academy starlet has been courting interest long before Valencia’s demise this season.
A brilliant performance at the World Cup in Qatar cemented the idea that he’s ready for a move back to the Premier League. Having played over 100 games for Valencia before turning twenty-one, Musah is a real prospect.
Ahead of Liverpool’s midfield rebuild this summer, his isn’t a name that has been mentioned too often. But given Valencia’s financial position, he could be a smart option.
Obviously, a lot would rest on the fee. If his club are expecting to get anything near the release clause then this isn’t going to happen. If Liverpool can haggle them considerably down though, there’s a chance to sign a player with a high ceiling for a very good price indeed.
