Gary Lineker and Jamie Carragher were both full of praise for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance last night against Leeds as the Liverpool defender once again flourished in a midfield role.
Taking to Twitter, the two pundits were blown away by what they saw from the 24-year-old, who for the second game running operated as the no. 6 in midfield alongside Fabinho to incredible results, with Alexander-Arnold making two assists in a 6-1 win.
The tactical decision from Jurgen Klopp to finally play Alexander-Arnold in midfield has been long in the making, and with Liverpool having just an outside chance of a top-four finish, it makes sense why the German manager has now decided to give the England international a chance to operate away from right-back.
Indeed, Alexander-Arnold impressed against Arsenal in the role, yet last night’s performance against Leeds could be a defining moment for the West Derby-born superstar, who could now spend the rest of the season alongside the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in his new position.
Alexander-Arnold could be an answer to Liverpool’s midfield issues

Having played the position during his youth, it’s no wonder why Alexander-Arnold looked so comfortable in midfield for the Reds, and heading into next season, Liverpool might have an answer to their problems in the position, which this campaign has been their biggest cause of concern.
Whilst midfield signings are still needed, it’s hard to now not get exciting by the prospect of Alexander-Arnold playing regularly in central midfield, with the 24-year-old showing against Leeds that he has the quality and tactical knowledge to thrive in the position for Liverpool.
