Jurgen Klopp has lauded Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance against Leeds United, with the Liverpool defender operating in midfield in a standout display.

Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, the German manager was full of praise for the 24-year-old England international, who once again played an inverted fullback role that saw Alexander-Arnold operate in central midfield alongside Fabinho.

The tactic proved to be a stroke of genius as Alexander-Arnold made two assists in a 6-1 win against Leeds, a result that could kick-start a late push for Liverpool to qualify for a European spot in the Premier League in the remaining fixtures this season.

Alexander-Arnold’s display was rightly praised by supporters and pundits, and Klopp was also impressed with what he saw, with the Liverpool manager saying: “He won the ball back for the first goal from that position as well, stepping really out there, it was good. Yeah, impressive.

“I think also the highlight was then the last pass [his assist for Nunez], but he had a few more from that position. Wherever Trent is [on the pitch] he can be decisive with his passes, he was very often for us, that’s how it is, tonight was a good game, you could see that he enjoyed it.”

Alexander-Arnold playing centrally has worked wonders in the last two games against Leeds and Arsenal, and with Klopp a big fan of what the fullback did in the midfield at Elland Road, the Liverpool boss has to keep the experiment going in the upcoming fixtures.

Whilst a top-four finish might be out of reach, Liverpool can give themselves an outside chance of a UEFA Champions League spot if they keep playing Alexander-Arnold in midfield, a decision that has seemingly rejuvenated the 24-year-old in the best possible way.
