Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has raved about the performance of Trent Alexander-Arnold during their rampant 6-1 victory over Leeds United.
Speaking in a post-match interview with Sky Sports, the German was asked about his decision to move the 24-year-old into midfield – having watched him excel in the middle of the park tonight.
“The goal for Darwin is an exceptional pass,” said Klopp.
“We need to be better protected – we’ve conceded too many counter-attacks.
“He played a really good game. When we lost the ball, the reaction was completely different.”
Klopp raves about Trent
Klopp’s formation change has really transformed Liverpool, and most evidently Alexander-Arnold.
Playing as an inverted right-back, the Scouser pushed forward into midfield when the Reds were in possession of the ball.
This allowed him to get onto the ball more and use his incredible passing ability to dictate play in the middle of the park.
Having faced criticism for his defensive showings at times this season, Alexander-Arnold looks back to his best in his new role.
He was given the creative license to enjoy himself – and that was really clear to see.
This certainly seems to be the way forward, looking ahead of next season.
