Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Roberto Firmino as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, who is set to return to Chelsea at the end of this season.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Liverpool forward is an option to replace the Belgian international ahead of the end of his loan spell, with Firmino believed to be interested in a move to Inter, though the 31-year-old is still keeping his options open.
Firmino has announced that he will leave Liverpool when his contract expires this summer, and interest is beginning to mount for the Brazilian international, with Inter the latest in a long-line of clubs who could move to sign the Anfield icon in the coming weeks.
Lauded as ‘world-class’ by former Hoffenheim transfer chief Lutz Pfannenstiel, Firmino could be an excellent addition for Inter, with Serie A slowly growing as the most likely destination for the Liverpool man amid links over the weekend to AS Roma.
Indeed, with Inter soon to have a free slot in the attack with Lukaku returning to west London, Firmino could quickly establish himself as a starter for the Nerazzurri, with the forward an ideal player to operate alongside the likes of Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez.
Inter signing Firmino could be a sensational move this summer
As mentioned, Italy is emerging as Firmino’s most likely next stop after eight years with Liverpool, and whilst Inter could miss out on a UEFA Champions League spot, the Milan-based giants could prove to be too good a club for the Brazilian to turn down.
With Lukaku also returning to England, Firmino will be an almost-guaranteed starter for Inter, who could have their new talisman in the Liverpool star, who could flourish in Serie A and lead the San Siro side back to the top of Italian football for next season.
