Reported Liverpool transfer target Levi Colwill won’t be considered for sale by Chelsea this summer.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who is on-loan at Brighton, had been reported as being on Liverpool’s radar. But now according to journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter, Colwill is set to stay put.
“Levi Colwill will not leave Chelsea this summer,” Jacobs wrote. “Club has a three year option on the contract. He will be back at the club next season. He won’t be sold or loaned. As previously reported, Chelsea view him as an elite-level prospect.”
Another name crossed off Liverpool’s list
After dropping out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham, and been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Mason Mount, this could be more bad news for Liverpool.
As they look to overhaul their midfield this summer, they also need to bolster their defence. With that in mind, Colwill had reportedly been identified as an option.
With Chelsea seemingly needing to get rid of a number of players at the end of the season, there may be some bargains to be had.
While Colwill is highly rated, he hasn’t featured too much for Brighton this season. As Chelsea are pretty well-stocked at centre-half, it’s certainly worth the likes of Liverpool asking the question.
Unfortunately, the answer to that question looks to have already been answered for them. It remains to be seen whether the Reds continue to push on for the England U21 man regardless. But with plenty of time before the window opens, maybe other options should start to be explored.
A lot can change between now and the opening of the window. For now though, it looks like Liverpool are going to have to cross another name off their list.
