Former player turned journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft has claimed he still believes Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham could join Liverpool this summer.
According to The Times and various other UK outlets, the Reds have supposedly pulled out of the race to sign the 19-year-old, as they cannot justify spending so much money on when player – especially when a large rebuild is needed.
However, Fjortoft has continually maintained that Bellingham will join the Merseyside outfit, and he still believes that remains a possibility – as demonstrated by a recent Tweet.
“When a club not so keen on «much- wanted – player» anymore,” the journalist wrote. “It’s usually:
– selling club wants “way more” than buying is willing to pay
– players doesn’t want to go there
“Personally, I think Jude could still end up at Liverpool.
“Roulette just been opened.”
Liverpool could still sign Bellingham?
Although we have seen similar things happen in the past (Alisson joining after reporters claimed he wouldn’t), this seems like an unlikely proposition in this case.
If Bellingham actually is valued in excess of £130m, there’s very little chance FSG would be willing to sanction such a high fee on one player.
Despite the fact Liverpool could get over a decade out of him, the Reds’s owners have never been ones to invest large amounts of money.
Bellingham would be an ‘incredible’ signing for Jurgen Klopp’s squad, but it appears the club have already directed their attention elsewhere as they look to overhaul their midfield this summer.
