After Liverpool pulled out of the race to sign him, there’s a good chance Jude Bellingham decides to stay at Borussia Dortmund for another year.
That’s according to journalist David Ornstein, who has shared an update on the 19-year-old during an interview with Football Daily.
Although Manchester City and Real Madrid lead at the forefront, the reporter believes the youngster could decide to remain at Signal Iduna Park, despite heavy transfer rumours.
“So, it feels like there’s a good chance he might stay for an extra year,” said Ornstein.
“He’s just 19 years old, there’s two years more on his contract and they might try and renew him; put a release clause in – there’s no release clause at the moment.
“So, it’s just unpredictable.”
Could be good news for Liverpool
Although Liverpool have cooled their pursuit of the England international ahead of the summer window, Bellingham deciding to stay at Dortmund would be a huge boost for Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds have cited a major summer rebuild as the reason they cannot afford to spend £130m on the player.
Instead, the club will look to bring in numerous additions for a relatively similar price.
However, if a move fails to come to fruition and Bellingham ultimately opts to stay in the Bundesliga, this would give Liverpool an opportunity to sign him next year.
They would be able to address their issues at the end of the current season by bringing in a couple of players, and then they could land the ‘exceptional’ teenager the following summer.
This is an unlikely proposition, but it certainly could become a possibility.
