Chelsea will reportedly hold a second meeting with FC Barcelona midfielder Gavi over a potential summer move, with Liverpool also interested in the Spanish international.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old ‘phenomenon’ is inching closer to a move to the Premier League as Barcelona continue to fight with La Liga over Gavi’s contract dispute, with Chelsea willing to offer the midfielder an incredible financial package to move to west London.
With Gavi currently set to leave Barcelona as a free agent if the Catalan side are unable to resolve the midfielder’s contract, a move to Chelsea could be possible with the Blues looking likely to flex their financial muscle once again this summer, much to Liverpool’s dismay.
The Times reported last month that Liverpool were keeping tabs on Gavi, alongside Manchester City, with the Reds ready to spend big on multiple midfielders this summer in an attempt to overhaul the squad and get it back to something that resembles a functioning pack.
And signing Gavi would more than do that, with the Spanish midfielder arguably the best talent in his position in world football, even more so than one Jude Bellingham, yet Liverpool missing out on the teenager would be a hammer blow given when Jurgen Klopp needs this summer.
Chelsea signing Gavi could be as bad as Liverpool missing out on Bellingham
Gavi is easily one of the best prospects in football, with the 18-year-old a regular for Spain and Barcelona and on rack to become one of the leading midfielders in the game, and for Liverpool, missing out on the youngster to Chelsea on a free transfer will sting.
As we know, the Reds need at least three midfield signings if they’re to compete for the Premier League next season, and with Gavi one of the best in the world already, Chelsea winning the race for the Spaniard to add to their ever-growing squad will be a huge slap in the face for Liverpool, who could be perfect for the Barcelona man.
