£70m player could end up at Anfield, Liverpool into final three clubs in race - Romano

Liverpool is one of three potential destinations for Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister this summer.

That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Speaking on his YouTube channel this afternoon, Romano gave an exciting update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Mac Allister.

“From what I’m told the Argentinian has three clubs interested in signing him. One is Chelsea for sure. They’re looking for a midfielder and exploring many options,” said the journalist. “But they are not alone, the race is not decided yet absolutely because Liverpool are there. They’re also interested in Alexis Mac Allister.

“They asked for information – I told you about [Moises] Caicedo – but they’re also interested in Mac Allister. I’m told there will be contacts form Liverpool’s side to understand conditions of the deal. So, Chelsea and Liverpool are interested but also Man United.”

There had been rumours that both Manchester City and Arsenal were also courting the Brighton man. But according to Romano, there’s currently only three clubs in the race.

“I’m not aware of any interest from any other English club. At the moment I’m told that these three clubs are in the race,” he said. “The player will take his time, will speak to people close to him, to his family to make the best decision about the project, but there’s a lot of interest in him. Mac Allister could get a summer move and could be an early move on the market.”

Liverpool looking for early business

The last point here from Romano is perhaps the absolutely crucial one. Mac Allister ‘could be an early move on the market.’

Jurgen Klopp badly needs to know his midfield options for next season as soon as possible. With so much change, it won’t do Liverpool any good to have confusion deep into the summer.

As a result, who they can get through the door early may dictate their summer targets more than any other factor.

From that point of view, Mac Allister might seem like an unlikely winner. Brighton are notoriously difficult to deal with in the transfer market and have allowed negotiations to go on for weeks on end in the past. Given their form for making the big clubs of the Premier League sweat, Liverpool might be best off swerving them.

The presence of two other sides might also be a bit of red flag in that sense. With Brighton reportedly looking for around £70m to sell Mac Allister, two other potential bidders could be problematic.

But if Liverpool get the sense that they can win this one, then they should certainly push ahead. Mac Allister looks well-suited to the Reds midfield needs and is surely only going to get even better. It’s a yes from us!
