Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken out about his enjoyment of playing alongside Darwin Nunez, with the Liverpool defender tipping the attacker for big things.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the England international lauded the 23-year-old striker after what has been an interesting first season for the Uruguay international, with Nunez hitting 14 goals in all competitions yet regularly finding himself as a target on the back of poor Liverpool results.
The Reds are on course to suffer their worst campaign yet under Jurgen Klopp, with a top-four finish a fading dream with nine games of the Premier League season left to go as Liverpool look to salvage anything from this trophyless year.
Yet whilst Nunez has hardly done any real damage for Liverpool this season, the 23-year-old has quickly established himself as a favourite at the club, with Alexander-Arnold clearly a fan of the South American talisman, who could explode into life next season.
The right-back said on Nunez: “We speak the language of football. That’s all that matters and Darwin is a really exciting player to play with. We all enjoy playing with him and we’re still getting to know him, how he plays and moves, but it’s exciting because he adds a lot to our team.”
Alexander-Arnold could push Nunez to the next level next season
For all the criticism Nunez has received this season, the Uruguay striker, on paper, has had quite the solid first year in England, with the forward on course to hit 15 goals for the campaign and to set the groundwork for an exciting second term at Anfield, one that Alexander-Arnold could assist in.
The Liverpool defender, like many players in the current squad, has suffered a massive dip in form and confidence this season. Yet a full summer of rest and some new additions could spark Alexander-Arnold back into life, which will benefit the likes of Nunez like nothing else.
