Liverpool may have just made their move to sign £66m PL star

Liverpool are one of three Premier League sides in the mix to sign World Cup winning midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

That’s according to Argentinian journalist Cesar Luis Merlo. Writing on Twitter yesterday evening, Merlo claimed that Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have ‘specific interest’ in the Brighton & Hove Albion star.

The journalist also claims that two of that trio are ‘already negotiating’ with Mac Allister and his representatives. However, Merlo doesn’t specify which two this could be.

“Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal have specific interest in signing Alexis Mac Allister in the next transfer window. Two of those clubs are already negotiating for the Brighton footballer,” the journalist wrote.

“His father and agent are in England monitoring the situation.”

Liverpool readying Mac Allister move

This is an interesting update from Mac Allister’s homeland. All the signs would point to the 24-year-old being a genuine target for Liverpool this summer.

And well he might be. After three slightly under-the-radar years with Brighton, Mac Allister has had a breakout campaign.

As well as the obvious high of a World Cup win, he has been phenomenal in a Seagulls side pushing for Champions League football.

In a summer where so many top sides are looking to strengthen their midfield, this was always going to lead to interest in Mac Allister.

And on paper, he’d look a really good fit for Liverpool. All-action, versatile and technically gifted, Mac Allister would slot nicely into the Reds new-look midfield.

The tricky part of course, will be prising him away from Brighton. Notoriously stubborn to deal with, the South Coast side have already reportedly slapped a £66m price-tag on Mac Allister. With United and Arsenal seemingly hot on his trail too, they’ll be hopeful of a bidding war raising that fee even further. Liverpool will want to avoid that. Let’s see what happens next.
