Cody Gakpo is expected to be restored in the Liverpool starting XI ahead of their massive Premier League clash against Arsenal, with Jurgen Klopp resting the winger against Chelsea.
According to the Athletic, the Dutch international is due to return to the starting fold at Anfield this Sunday as Liverpool host the league leaders Arsenal, with the Reds eager to claim three points in what is being billed as one of the biggest matches of the season for either club.
Arsenal will be fully aware that a win at Anfield could solidify their credentials as Premier League title challengers, whilst Liverpool know that dropping any more points could result in their top-four bid being officially ended given that they currently sit ten points off fourth spot.
Yet it appears that Klopp is pulling out all the stops against Arsenal by introducing Gakpo back into the starting XI, a player that Liverpool’s assistant manager Pep Lijnders once hailed as ‘special’ having joined the club from PSV in the January transfer window.
Indeed, Gakpo being fully rested to face Arsenal is a big result for Liverpool, and with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah also expected to return into the XI, the Reds are as ready as they can be to take on the best side in the Premier League this season.
Gakpo could be key for Liverpool in getting a result vs Arsenal
Gakpo has continued to improve for Liverpool in each passing game for the Reds, yet the Dutch international will have his work cut out this Sunday when Arsenal roll into town, though the winger could prove his worth with a massive performance against the Gunners.
The attacker has already impressed against some clubs in the Premier League since arriving at the start of the year, and whilst Ben White has arguably been the best right-back in the division this season, Gakpo could give the England international some problems when the sides meet on Sunday.
