Virgil van Dijk is expected to return to the Liverpool starting XI this weekend against Arsenal, with the centre-back missing the clash against Chelsea earlier this week through injury.
According to the Athletic, the 31-year-old defender is due to start for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Sunday when Liverpool welcomes the Premier League leaders Arsenal to Anfield, with the Reds eager to get a result against Mikel Arteta’s men.
Van Dijk was one of many key players rested by Klopp on Tuesday in Liverpool’s fixtures against Chelsea, with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold all starting the match on the bench as Klopp looked to keep his star men injury-free to face Arsenal.

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by Leeds United striker Willy Gnonto, Liverpool having Van Dijk back, who has been suffering from illness, will be a massive boost for the Reds in their mission to get a result against Arsenal, who could smell blood at Anfield for the first time in over a decade.
The Gunners have historically struggled against Liverpool whilst playing in Merseyside, yet the Reds’ most recent form suggests that Arsenal could get a result against Klopp’s side, even with Van Dijk back in the starting XI to face Arteta’s in-form squad.
Van Dijk returning from injury could give Liverpool a chance vs Arsenal

Although Arsenal are the favourites in their clash against Liverpool, the Reds should never be ruled out, especially when it comes to fixtures at Anfield, and Van Dijk returning from injury could be massive in Klopp’s side claiming an unlikely three points against the Gunners.
The Merseyside giants arguably need three points more than Arsenal given their dire situation in the Premier League, and with Van Dijk now back for Liverpool, the Reds will be feeling confident in getting an unlikely result against the north London side, who could be there for the taking.
