Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has claimed he had the opportunity to join Liverpool in 2017.
Speaking in an interview with SportBILD about his career, the Poland international revealed Jurgen Klopp once proposed the idea of a move to Anfield.
Having formed a great relationship together whilst at Borussia Dortmund, the German wanted to add the striker to his ranks on Merseyside.

“We hosted Liverpool FC with Bayern in the Audi Cup in Munich in 2017,” said Lewandowski.
“We spoke on that occasion. Klopp asked me, ‘Don’t you want to come to Liverpool?’ We looked at each other, then I laughed.
“I don’t know if he was totally serious. But going to Liverpool was never in my mind.”
Lewandowski could’ve joined Liverpool
If Klopp was successful at convincing Lewandowski to make the move to Anfield, Liverpool would have had one of the world’s best forwards on their hands.
Under the German’s management at Dortmund, the Polish superstar bagged 103 goals and 42 assists in 187 appearances for the club.
He then went on to join Bayern Munich in 2014, where he went on to amass an incredible record. At the Bundesliga giants, Lewandowski sensationally scored 344 goals in 375 games.

Now at Barcelona on a deal worth £298,000-a-week, the 34-year-old is still one of the best strikers in European football.
However, Liverpool won’t be too upset having missed out on his signature.
Instead, they signed Mohamed Salah from AS Roma – and we all know how that turned out.
