Pundit says Mohamed Salah has been better for Liverpool than Luis Suarez ever was

Pundit Paul Merson has claimed Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has been a better player for the Reds than Luis Suarez was.

Writing in his predictions column for Sportskeeda, the former Arsenal man has claimed the ‘Egyptian king’ has been the best attacker in the Reds’ history for many years – even suggesting that he’s been more valuable than the likes of Luis Suarez.

“Salah might just be Liverpool’s best forward of the Premier League era,” wrote Merson.

“He plays on the right wing and has been scoring a ridiculous number of goals on a consistent basis and he’s done it longer than Luis Suarez.”

Merson says Salah is better than Suarez was

Having arrived at Anfield in 2017 in a deal worth £34m, Salah has gone on to become a legend of the club.

During his six-year tenure, the 30-year-old has made 291 appearances for the Reds. Incredibly, he has scored 178 goals and has also made 74 assists.

In comparison, Suarez only made 133 appearances for Liverpool before leaving for Barcelona. However, his record is also sensational, as he amassed 82 goals and 46 assists for the club.

The Uruguayan was with the Merseyside club for just three-and-a-half-years, whereas Salah has spent his prime at Anfield.

Therefore, comparing the two players is extremely difficult.

Picking who was better at their peak is near on impossible, however, it is fair to say Salah has done more for the Reds.

Given the impact he has had on the club, as well as the number of trophies he has brought back to Anfield, the ‘Egyptian king’ will go down as a Liverpool legend.
