Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott has claimed Mohamed Salah is the best role model around.
Speaking on the ‘We are Liverpool’ podcast, the U21 England international spoke about the 30-year-old’s mentorship and how he has helped guide him on and off the field.
“Yeah, Mo in himself, obviously his football ability – it’s one thing, and him as a human – it’s another,” said Elliott.
“And just the way he’s been with me throughout, obviously me joining, you don’t realise what he does off the pitch. Obviously you can see what he does on the pitch, but yeah.
“It’s hard to describe, because it’s one of them where you knew all of these things before, but now he’s constantly on your case, on your, on your case – in a good way, just in a way to show that he cares.
The 20-year-old later added: “It’s probably, obviously not all because of him, but a big help into where I am today.
“Being able to play the way I play, to be having him on the right side. Just the confidence for me to go out and play the way I want to play and know he’s there, like fully backing me and supporting me and trying to help me out in the games as well.
“For me, there’s no better person to look up to than Mo.
“Then he’s in the gym about an hour and 15 minutes before training, and then he’s doing bits after training.
“In training, he’s working as hard as he can and trying to get the most out of each and every thing.”
Elliott raves about Salah’s mentorship
Elliott is completely right in his assessment here: Salah is an incredible role model to look up to.
On and off the pitch, he sets the highest example. This is just one of the many reasons why he is seen as a legend in both his native country, Egypt, and on Merseyside.
Despite the fact he’s bagged 179 goals and 74 assists in 295 games for the club, the attacker’s best trait could arguable be his availability – he rarely gets injured.
Perhaps this can be attributed to his phenomenal work behind the scenes, as Elliott says.
As a reliable asset in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, Salah’s importance is unparalleled.
Therefore, not only are youngsters like Elliott lucky to have him around, but the fans are equally as lucky.
