Liverpool transfer news: Reds interested in signing Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia – journalist

Liverpool are now interested in Southampton star Romeo Lavia, as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his midfield options this summer.

That’s according to journalist Jacque Talbot, having recently spoken about transfers on his YouTube channel.

He claims the Reds have added the 19-year-old to their long list of midfield targets, which is already populated by the likes of Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes.

“I did a tweet about Liverpool liking Lavia from Southampton, which is true,” said Talbot.

“It comes from a good place. It comes from someone near recruitment and they have him on the list.

“Lists, as I’ve always said, are quite extensive. Liverpool’s are longer than most because of the overhaul they’re going to have.

“Liverpool, I can tell you as a fact, have an interest in this player, I don’t know the extent, but they do have an interest in Lavia.”

Having shown huge promise whilst coming through the ranks at Manchester City, it was a big surprise to see the Premier League champions allow him to leave the club last summer.

Having joined Southampton in a deal worth up to £14m, the Belgium international has made a name for himself in the senior game this season.

Averaging an 86.4% pass success rate, the midfielder has illustrated his ability to accurately spray the ball around the pitch – playing 1.7 long passes per game. For this, he has received strong praise from Manchester United legend Paul Scholes.

At 19 years old, Lavia has the chance to improve significantly, with the potential to become one of the best midfielders in the division.

Therefore, having been hailed as ‘ridiculous’ by journalist Jacob Tanswell, it’s easy to see why Liverpool would be keen on the youngster.

However, the biggest hurdle here is that Man City have a £40m buyback clause in the player’s Saints deal.

This means they could poach Lavia right out of the Reds’s grasp, and the Sky Blues vice-captain, Kevin de Bruyne – who is good friends with his Belgian teammate – could likely convince him to return to the Etihad.
