Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham was actually keen to sign for Liverpool before they lost to Manchester City on Saturday.

That’s according to The Times and journalist Paul Joyce, who has shared an update on Jurgen Klopp’s pursuit of the 19-year-old.

Before the weekend, Bellingham was keen to make the move to Anfield this summer.

Whether this was affected by the Reds’s 4-1 loss to Man City on Saturday is yet to be determined, but Dortmund’s defeat to Bayern Munich on the same day “demonstrates how the natural order has been restored in the Bundesliga.”

It is believed it will take in excess of £100m to bring the England international to Merseyside.

Bellingham was keen to join Liverpool

In our view, it’s highly unlikely Saturday’s loss to City will be a factor in Bellingham’s decision this summer.

Although he reportedly has offers from both teams, the idea of the project at Anfield seems to appeal to the youngster more than the lure of imminent silverware at the Etihad.

After the incredibly poor season Liverpool have had, if the midfielder still remained keen on a move before the weekend, then results between now and the end of the campaign are set to play very little in his transfer decision.

If Bellingham decides to join either City or Real Madrid, he would be playing Champions League football straight away, whereas this isn’t a guarantee at Anfield after this year’s shenanigans.

Hailed as a ‘world class’ player by England teammate Kieran Trippier, the teenager could choose to join any club in world football.

However, despite Liverpool’s shortcomings this term, he still seems intent on linking up with Klopp on Merseyside this summer.
