Liverpool are reportedly ‘huge admirers’ of Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes, with Jurgen Klopp keen to sign a Premier League-proven midfielder this summer.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds are big fans of the Brazilian international as the Merseyside club look to finalise their summer transfer options as we approach the end of the season, with Guimaraes held in high regard by those at Anfield.
However, as per the report, Liverpool officials are aware that any deal to lure the 25-year-old away from St. James Park will be a non-starter, with Guimaraes set to sign a new contract with Newcastle as the Magpies currently sit third in the Premier League standings.
One of Eddie Howe’s best players and a talent who Jamie Carragher rates highly, Guimaraes has the quality to play at the biggest level in football, with Liverpool a realistic next step for the Newcastle star if the Reds have the financial muscle to tempt the midfielder in a move.
However, given Liverpool’s limited resources and Newcastle’s current standing in the Premier League, it’s no surprise that the Reds will struggle to sign Guimaraes, who looks close to signing a new long-term deal with the northeast side.
Moreover, with Liverpool in need of signing two quality midfielders this summer, the Anfield side would be wise to focus their attention on players who could be realistic options, a category Guimaraes fails to fall into given his ongoing contract situation with Newcastle.
Liverpool signing Guimaraes is a fantastical yet unrealistic dream
Guimaraes took the Premier League by storm after signing with Newcastle in 2022, and with the Toon now in the driving seat for a top-four spot, it’s no wonder why the midfielder wants to remain at the club, even amid interest and admiration from Liverpool.
The Reds are a bigger club than Newcastle and are capable of attracting any player in the world if they tried hard enough. Yet with Guimaraes sold on the PIF project and Howe making the midfielder a key man in the system, a move seems unrealistic at best for Klopp’s side.
